Outreach Training Programme

Outreach work has been a key ingredient for the success of our regeneration agency. At its most basic level, it can involve a simple leafleting exercise. In a more advanced setting, it entails in-depth interviews with residents and workers at a grass-roots level. Outreach can help organisations to improve and deliver better services to residents via information gathered from questionnaires and surveys. And it can also help hard to reach residents to access services that can improve their quality of life. Enabling and empowering local people is beneficial to all parties concerned and outreach work is a perfect way of achieving this. With this in mind, KCRT developed the Outreach Training Programme; a 3 day (12 hour) course in which participants are introduced to all aspects of outreach work.

With this in mind, KCRT developed the Employability Training Programme which places emphasis on soft skills and enables participants to have the right confidence and attitude in order to build the foundations for the later preparations for employment (e.g. interview and telephone techniques). Our soft skills training places emphasis on making choices. The programme also helps in dealing with change and coping with the fear which inevitably arises when confronting new situations such as finding a new job. The training also includes sessions on getting and staying motivated, assertiveness, effective communication as well as dealing with difficult situations. These soft skills are then be put into practice when sessions focus on hard skills. For example, training on telephone techniques may incorporate past learning on assertiveness and dealing with difficult situations. By developing strategies to deal with potential problems before they occur, clients will not only find work, they will keep work.

This training programme covers the following:

- Introduction and Course presentation
- Identifying local barriers, problems and concerns
- Attitude
- Confidence Building Exercises
- Communication Skills
- Reliability Skills
- Working in a team
- Time keeping
- Telephone techniques
- Spelling Tests
