Community Groups

As part of its community development work KCRT has managed two community groups in Haggerston Estate: The Over 50s, and the Ethnic Women (ie Turkish & Asian) group. These Groups are funded by Canalside Housing Partnership.

The over 50s Group

The over 50s Group meet every Thursday at Haggerston Community Centre. Group members are given a range of activities to choose from and decisions are made with a view to accommodating the needs of as many members as possible. KCRT also invites speakers to meet the group at Haggerston community centre eg Age Concern and publicises events and services with a view to providing information that will improve the quality of life for group members.

The Ethnic Women’s Group

KCRT has arranged ESOL classes embedded in IT, for the womens group which meets at Haggerston Community Centre. These classes have been arranged in response to group needs and have proved to be very popular. The group is facilitated by a bilingual outreach worker who is responsible for making and maintaining contact with members, and organising refreshments on a weekly basis.  The community trip planned for the group provides a valuable highlight for members and is also a good opportunity for people meet, and to invite friends and family to participate. All group activities planned take user needs and views into consideration and members are required to provide feedback on the service provided, to inform development for future provision.
